SEA Systems Group, Inc. (SEAS), manufacturer of patented MitiGator™ Technology, the most advanced impact /shock /vibration mitigating materials, has seat bottom and back cushions for the HMMWV.  

Those who operate or ride in HMMWV’s know that mine detonations, constant or single impacts, shocks and/or vibrations can cause death, severe injuries, fatigue, reduced proficiency, and pain. The MitiGator™ Technology is an U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) engineered system designed to protect personnel from these assaults and allows them to continue to perform their jobs more safely and efficiently. 

The MitiGator™ Technology uses patented air control technology to dissipate impact/shock/vibration before it is transmitted to the body and thus help alleviate this adverse energy.  The MitiGator™ Technology has been validated through intensive in-house as well as independent testing by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, several commercial laboratories, and by many evaluators in other branches of the military, law enforcement, and even recreational applications.

  The HMMWV MitiGator™cushions:

• Dissipate impact/shock/vibration energy better than any other cushion on the market.  Most cushions exacerbate injury problems by compressing and allowing the body to be “slammed into” when it bottoms out.  Air Force ejection seat testing has shown that there is a reduction of spinal load of 7-8% achieved simply by removing the current cushion made of conventional cushion foam.
   
• Dissipate as much as 80% more impact injury than any other cushion, as shown by U.S. Navy lab testing.  Looked at a different way, when “Space” foam and MitiGator™cushions were compared to current aviation cushions, MitiGator™  cushions reduced spinal loading 8.8X (times) more than “Space” foam alone.
  
  
•  The seat bottoms are constructed of two layers of MitiGator™ inserts designed to reduce lumbar loads during impacts/shock/vibrations to include mine detonations.  Each layer has different characteristics designed to compliment each other in dissipating adverse energy before it reaches the occupant.
  
  
•  The MitiGator™ inserts are encapsulated in C45 and C47 SeaFoam™ for further energy dissipation, protection and vibration isolation.  SeaFoam™  is also called Confor™, rate sensitive, temperature sensitive and “Space” foam. SeaFoam™ reduces pressure points, are extremely comfortable, and conform to the body of the occupant.  The foam returns to its original shape a few moments after weight is removed.
  
  
• The seat back cushions are constructed from C47 SeaFoam™ .  As in the bottom cushion, this foam conforms to the body to reduce pressure points and improves ergonomic comfort. The back cushions exhibit controlled collapse to ensure long term support and minimize bottoming out.
  
  
• Include seat bottom and back cushions for the driver and passenger seats that replace existing cushions in form and fit.
  
  
• Cushions meet FAR 25.853 fire resistance standards.  Upholstery is MilSpec.
  
  
• Are a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) item, available on a sole source basis (SBIR legislation), with an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract mechanism in place to provide for fielding in a matter of weeks.  No anticipated development or additional research required.
