Pressure Mapping

A pressure mapping system is a flat piece of material with sensors that measure pressures. It was designed for researchers in order to make determinations about comfort, pressure ulcers or product differences. Pressure mapping uses sophisticated hardware and software. This system is currently being used by the Healthcare Finance Administration to categorize cushions.

Most pressure mapping systems are computer based. The numbers on the screen correspond with a pressure reading. Blues are low pressures and reds are high pressures. The pressure mapping system measures uniaxial pressure (vertical or straight down) and does not measure shear forces.
